Things to consider when buying a women’s wetsuit

If you’re not familiar with buying a wetsuit, then this guide will hopefully give you the guidance you need to pick the right one for you. When choosing women’s wetsuits, there are a number of factors to consider that are important when shopping around for one.

When buying a women’s wetsuit, here are some things to think about and to make use of when comparing wetsuits.

The season

The season is an important factor to think about when buying a wetsuit. Whilst it might be cost-effective to have one wetsuit for the entire year, you may want to rethink this. A winter wetsuit is going to be around 4-5mm in thickness and therefore too thick for when the summer sun comes out.

It also depends on how often you go into the water and whether it’s something you just do in particular during the summer or winter.

The budget

What’s your budget? If you are out on the water regularly throughout the year, then you may want to budget for two wetsuits instead of just one.

Ultimately, though, the amount you spend is determined on how much you’re going to use the wetsuit and what you can afford at the time.

The price for a wetsuit can range and like with most things, if you invest a bit more money than normal into your wetsuit, it’s likely going to last longer. If you’re just starting out, consider a entry-level wetsuit from a reputable brand, as these often strike a good balance between quality and durability.

Thickness and size

Thickness of a women’s wetsuit is an important thing to consider, as well as the sizing of it. It’s useful to think about the temperatures of the water you’re going in, in order to get the thickness right.

When it comes to sizing, make sure that the wetsuit fits like a glove over your body. There should be no excess material but at the same time, you don’t want it so tight that it’s nearly impossible to get on and off. You don’t want to be struggling for twenty minutes, trying to get the wetsuit on your body.

Make sure you test out your wetsuit by checking you’ve got a full range of motion, from stretching your arms up to being able to sit down without it tightening around any parts of your body. You shouldn’t feel uncomfortable and the wetsuit should feel like another layer of skin.

Accessories

Accessories are something you want to think about when shopping for a wetsuit, particularly in the winter. Things like a hood, gloves and boots will help keep all those exposed parts of your body that aren’t covered by the wetsuit, nice and warm.

Whilst they’re not always needed, they can make a big difference to how you feel in the water and how long you stay in it!

When buying a women’s wetsuit, be sure to factor in all of the above to find the right one for you.
